Jordan and DJ escape, but Dalton does not

Terrible Lizards ends with Jordan and DJ reaching the surface, where Stella's car waits near the exit. Dalton has died during his attempt to find his son, so the rescue succeeds without bringing DJ's father home.

The ending completes Jordan's immediate task: getting DJ out of the underground facilities. It also leaves Dalton's apology as an important part of his story, rather than giving him a reunion with his son. To understand the finale, separate that personal outcome from questions about the substance and everything that happened beneath the attraction.

02

Follow the final escape with DJ

  1. Climb the ladder at the end of the short cave to emerge at the surface. Stella's car is near the exit before the closing title.
03

What Dalton's death and farewell mean

Dalton's death is stated directly in Jordan's conversation with Stella. Later, Jordan tells DJ that his father tried to reach him but did not survive, and reassures him that Dalton loved him. These conversations make Dalton's fate part of the story itself, rather than something you need to infer from an abandoned object or a threatening scene.

Dalton's letter goodbye adds the personal meaning behind that loss. He apologizes to Elena for distancing himself and cutting her out, and to DJ for failing to believe in and support him. His message to Stella admits that he should have listened to her advice about keeping the attraction focused on science and educating its guests.

04

DJ's relationship with Dennis

DJ describes Dennis as someone who will find him and take him again. He also tells Jordan that Dennis does not like anyone except him, explaining why DJ's relationship with Dennis differs from Jordan's frightening encounters. During the escape, DJ rejects that friendship and says they are going home.

DJ's wishes during the ascent bring the rescue back to ordinary childhood: he wants to draw pictures and hug his mother. Read alongside Dalton's apology for failing to lift his son up, that exchange gives the ending a strong family theme. This is an interpretation of their dialogue, rather than a separate revelation about DJ's abilities or identity.

05

What the underground experiments reveal

Stella explains that the substance was discovered while the team dug deeper for fossils. She says that she and Ellie wanted nothing to do with it, while Dalton and a shadow broker committed themselves to the operation. She also recalls Dalton bringing her down to observe the Bronto creature, which showed her how bad the situation had become.

The experimental notes describe material with elastic and adhesive properties, including samples that share an elemental composition despite behaving differently. Dr. Jonathan Fellows' material analysis describes failed classification attempts and resistance to chemical agents. These findings establish unusual material properties, but they do not provide a complete explanation of every creature's origin or every person's fate.

The Hybrid is described by the developer as a Dilophosaurus-human design. That description helps explain its appearance, but it should not be stretched into a named person's transformation story. Keep the creature's design separate from theories about who it might have been.

06

Recordings and notes to revisit

For more of Dalton's background, revisit the tapes named Dalton Coolidge: The New Site, Dalton Coolidge: Selling the Fossils, Dalton Coolidge: The Quota, and Dalton Coolidge: The Motherlobe. Read the Letter from Elena to Dalton and Dalton's letter goodbye alongside them. The notes and recordings add context to the attraction's history and its people, while the main path delivers the crucial story.

07

The main ending and Stella's arrival

Terrible Lizards has one main ending. Branching decisions and different endings were considered during development, but were cut. There is no established alternate or secret ending route to pursue.

The closing scene places Stella's car near the surface exit. You can interpret that arrival as reassuring or unsettling, but a theory about its deeper meaning is not an additional ending. Keep the visible escape separate from imagined events after the closing title.
